Collaborating closely with key partners in Torbay, including the NHS Trust, community groups and organisations, NHS Devon Integrated Care Board, GPs, pharmacies, and residents, to enhance the health and well-being of the community is key to improving local outcomes.

By working with Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and other providers, Torbay Council Public Health team ensure coordinated healthcare services and initiatives, such as substance misuse services that provide holistic care, 0-19 services which reach into and strengthens communities through Family Hubs.

Torbay Communities

Community groups and organisations play a vital role in reaching our diverse populations and addressing specific health needs. Brought together to raise the voice and influence of a broad range of groups, Torbay Communities (also known as Torbay Community Development Trust) has gone from strength to strength since it launched in 2014. Among its many and diverse projects and offers across Torbay, the hugely successful Community Helpline has continued beyond the Covid Pandemic of 2020 to connect communities, individuals, and services together.

Community Pharmacy Devon

Pharmacies are essential in providing accessible healthcare and preventive services. Working with partners in Community Pharmacy Devon, Devon – Website of Devon Local Pharmaceutical Committee (communitypharmacy.org.uk), innovative and preventative services and solutions to healthcare challenges are offered to residents. Alongside the usual local dispensing of medication, community pharmacy roles have changed significantly in the last few years, and they deliver essential services commissioned by NHS England and Improvement, NHS Devon and ICB, Torbay Council and other stakeholders. Community pharmacies are also responsible for advancing the enhanced role of community pharmacy to ensure it is integrated within local systems to benefit the populations of Torbay.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT)

A cornerstone of health and social care in Torbay. It is an Integrated Care Organsiation (Integrated care – frequently asked questions – Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust) , which means that health and community works together to deliver more integrated care for Torbay residents. Torbay Council Public Health team work closely with TSDFT to ensure coordinated healthcare services and initiatives, such as substance misuse services that provide holistic care, 0-19 services  which reach into and strengthens communities through Family Hubs (Home – Family Hub (torbayfamilyhub.org.uk)) and high quality and effective HIV, Sexual and Reproductive Health services (Devon Sexual Health – providing sexual health services that support healthy relationships and sexual well-being – Devon Sexual Health).

TSDFT

One Devon

One Devon is a collaboration of local Councils, NHS and a very wide range of other partners, inlcuding the Voluntary sector, NHSE England, Health and Wellbeing Boards and healthcare providers, all working to improve the lives of poeple in Devon, including Torbay.  

Working at a system level, One Devon is our local Integrated Care System (ICS) and Torbay are strongly represented as an executive member by the current Torbay Director of Public Health, Dr Lincoln Sargeant.  Part of the role is to ensure that NHS Devon commissions the highest quality services, with a view to securing the best possible coutcomes for the patients within the financial allocation, whilst maintaining a consistent focus on quality.

Devon Local Medical Committee

General practice is vital for providing accessible, cost-effective, and comprehensive healthcare. As the first point of contact, GPs and general practice staff manage a wide range of health issues, offer preventative care, and coordinate services to ensure holistic patient care. Often a trusted feature of many communities in Torbay, they are crucial partners in local health improvement. 

The Devon Local Medical Committee (LMC) represents NHS General Practitioners in Devon, advocating for their interests and supporting their vital role in the community. They offer a range of support to general practice from coaching to leadership and management support , training and negotiations around contracts.
