
The English Indices of Deprivation measure relative levels of deprivation for small areas across England. A new version has been produced for 2025. Torbay Council’s Public Health Team has produced a report (including maps) which shows how Torbay ranks for deprivation at Local Authority and small area level:
- Torbay is ranked as the 39th most deprived upper tier local authority in England, out of 153
- Torbay is ranked as the most deprived local authority in the South West
- Highest levels of deprivation are mainly concentrated in more central areas of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, with pockets in other areas such as within Barton with Watcombe and King’s Ash wards
